Locums - McAllen, Texas, NP Cardiology Opening

Clinical Role

Join an established Cardiac Rehabilitation program in McAllen, Texas, providing outpatient cardiology support as a Nurse Practitioner. This locums opportunity offers a structured Monday-Friday schedule, orientation with the current NP, and the opportunity to provide direct patient care within a multidisciplinary cardiac rehabilitation setting.

Assignment Details

Start Date:

  • August 3, 2026
  • Orientation/training with current NP included

Assignment Length:

  • 18 weeks

Schedule:

  • Monday-Friday
  • 8:00 AM-5:00 PM
  • One-hour break
  • Last patient scheduled at 4:30 PM

Practice Setting:

  • Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation Clinic
  • Medical Office Building located across from the hospital

Clinical Details & Responsibilities

Department:

  • Cardiac Rehabilitation

Patient Volume:

  • Highest volume days:
    • Monday
    • Wednesday
    • Thursday
    • Approximately 16 patients per day
  • New patient intake days:
    • Tuesday and Friday
    • Approximately 2-4 new patients

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct supervision for patients participating in cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation
  • Perform patient histories and physical assessments
  • Evaluate patient response to rehabilitation therapy
  • Monitor cardiac telemetry
  • Respond immediately to adverse events during rehabilitation sessions
  • Develop individualized exercise and treatment plans with medical director oversight
  • Coordinate care with multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams
  • Provide patient education and counseling
  • Ensure compliance with CMS cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation requirements
  • Communicate patient status changes with physicians and medical directors
  • Implement ACLS protocols when needed
  • Supervise rehabilitation technicians

  • Multidisciplinary rehabilitation team

Requirements

  • Nurse Practitioner with Cardiology/Cardiac Rehabilitation background required
  • Experience in outpatient cardiac rehabilitation setting required
  • Master's degree in Nursing or Advanced Nurse Practitioner certification required
  • Texas Board of Nursing recognition as:
    • Family Nurse Practitioner, or
    • Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
  • Active Texas RN license required
  • BLS required
  • ACLS required
  • Minimum two years of Cardiac Unit or Telemetry experience required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency highly preferred
  • Strong communication and patient education skills
  • Experience with cardiac telemetry monitoring

Credentialing

Organization & Team

  • Established Cardiac Rehabilitation program
  • Reports to Director of Acute Care and Outpatient Rehabilitation, Respiratory Therapy, Vascular Access, and Wound Care Services
  • Collaborative relationship with medical directors and referring physicians
  • Opportunity to support cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation patients in an outpatient setting
