Job description

NEEDED: Physician - General

LOCATION: Health Services Department, 1507 East Whatley Road, Oakdale, Louisiana 71463

SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, between 7:30 AM - 4:00, 40 hours per week

QUALIFICATION:

  • Must possess a current and valid medical license to practice medicine in any state in the United States of America.
  • Must also be certified in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in accordance with the American Heart Association and provide a copy of his/her certification.
  • Shall undergo a security clearance and background check.
  • Must provide verification of credentials (education, current licensor/status competency, continuing medical education), as required by the Joint Commission.
  • Must have experience with medical equipment.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Provide consultation, urgent, and emergency care as needed.
  • Response to all urgent/emergency care must be immediate.
  • Clinical staff or others will accompany the contract physician to all emergency locations in order to access entry into locked buildings, special housing units, and etc.
  • Responsible for providing medical services for acute and chronic medical problems among the general population, as well as those in the Reintegration Housing Unit and Special Housing Units.
  • Services will include evaluating and treating inmates requiring emergency medical care, routine chronic care, performing comprehensive history and physical examinations, reviewing and signing diagnostic and consultative reports, and providing clinical guidance to the med-level providers, nurses, and EMT's. Detailed medical record documentation must be maintained, and deficiencies must be corrected in a timely manner.
  • Other specific duties may involve all aspects of vision health care delivery which will be performed in accordance with currently accepted medical practices and procedures.
  • Complete all data collection instruments and medical records as required and in accordance to medical staff bylaws and BOP policy.
